How You Can Help

Ballston Lake Emergency Squad is an all-volunteer agency, and we rely on members of the community stepping forward to assist us, just as we go back out into the community to help those in need.

Volunteers Wanted

Ballston Lake Emergency Squad is always accepting applications from prospective members who are at least 18 years of age. There is no experience necessary, only the desire to help.

The Squad responds to an average of two calls per day, and the crew most often consists of 3 or 4 people. An experienced Squad member will always be present with new members to help mentor them and answer questions at any time.

Most new Squad members are expected to enroll in a New York State Emergency Medical Technician class within their first year of membership, but we sometimes have a limited number of slots for people who only wish to drive. The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class is approximately 120 hours long, and is currently offered at no charge to the participant. Any new member is expected to complete an American Heart Association CPR class and learn some basic first aid (both available through the Squad) prior to riding on the ambulance. Don't worry, senior Squad members are always available to assist you and work with you on your skills and knowledge.

Ready to take the next step? Click here to download an application that you may print out and mail back to the Squad. This application requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader program, available free from Adobe by clicking here and following the simple instructions

Not sure this is really for you? Please feel free to email ballstonlakeems@yahoo.com with your name, phone number(s), and best time to call, and someone will contact you and try to answer all your questions, or even try to arrange for a tour of the station.

Sounds interesting but not sure if you have the aptitude? Why not try a CPR class first, and take the first step towards getting onto the ambulance.

Social Members

The Squad does have a small number of non-riding Social Members who assist in Squad activities. These members often assist with administrative tasks, or help organize social events and community outreach projects such as our monthly blood pressure screening. Social members are not required to ride on the ambulance, but are still serving their community.

To find out more, email to ballstonlakeems@yahoo.com with your name, phone number, and best time to call, and someone will get in touch with you.

Donations

Like any volunteer organization, Ballston Lake Emergency Squad depends in large part upon the generosity of the community. Although we receive money from the towns we serve, it is never quite enough to keep up with the costs of training our volunteers in State and regionally mandated classes and continuing medical education, or of acquiring and maintaining the best possible emergency medical equipment, such as monitor/defibrillator/pacemakers and portable ventilators.

If being a volunteer is just not for you, but you would like to support our activities, please send a donation to:
